11th Annual Power of Women to Make a Difference Award Luncheon

On March 8, 2017, our Women’s Leadership Council brought the invaluable power of women together for their 11th Annual Power of Women to Make a Difference Award Luncheon to fight for families, especially children, living in our City's high poverty neighborhoods.

  1. Why the #PowerofWomen gathered...
  2. As International Women’s Day and Day Without a Woman critically activated communities across the world, we gathered drive and celebrate IMPACT.
  3. United Way of New York City’s Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) champions our education work, fighting for families in NYC's most-challenged communities. They especially focus on ReadNYC, our signature program to increase grade-level reading by third grade—a critical milestone in a child’s future success. At the Luncheon nearly 500 New Yorkers rallied behind our fight.
  4. The #PowerofWomen is fighting for low-income families, because we believe all New Yorkers deserve a shot at prosperity. But grave realities aren't in everyone's favor...
  5. To lift up families in our City's high poverty communities and help them realize prosperity, United Way of New York City developed its ReadNYC program--its fight for literacy and empowering families.
  6. But the fight for literacy is not United Way of New York City's alone. Increasing literacy rates and breaking the cycle of poverty requires a lot of might—the might of New Yorkers, like the #PowerofWomen, who believe in possibility and stand for compassion. To help rally firepower across the City, UWNYC debuted a new campaign called Spread the Words.
  7. And to ensure that our firepower was HOT, we honored exemplars of what it means to be a changemaker dedicated to advancing the common good!
