World Water Day 馃寧馃挧馃毎 2017

This year, #WorldWaterDay focused on taking action to tackle the water crisis. On this day, we highlight the importance of fresh and safe water in our daily lives. Through the Joint Programme on @PROWATER_PH, we aim to popularize the integration of safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

  1. This year's theme, "Water and Wastewater", focused on wastewater from our homes, cities, industry and agriculture that flow back to nature without being treated or reused - polluting the environment and losing valuable nutrients and other recoverable materials.
  2. Partner communities of @PROWATER_PH in Regions 5 and 9 worked on murals that promote the integrated water, sanitation and hygiene (iWash) approach in providing sustainable safe water and sanitation services. Women and girls actively participated in the mural concept development and painting, as they are also very much involved in planning, decision-making and implementation of water and sanitation projects.
  3. Globally, there are over 663 million people living without a safe water supply close to home, spending countless hours queuing or trekking to distant sources, and coping with the health impacts of using contaminated water.
  4. In the Philippines, the kick off celebration for #WorldWaterDay was through an exhibit organized by @DILGPhilippines which was open to the public at the Market Market shopping center in Taguig City. @ProWater_PH participated in the exhibit along with other government agencies and non-government organisations.

  9. “Kung makikita ng bawat bata o tao ang nakapinta sa pader, makikita nila kung paano ang kalinisan, kung paano gagawin at kung saan nanggagaling ang tubig (If every kid or person would see what is painted on the wall, they could be acquainted on what is proper hygiene, what needs to be done or where the water is coming from),” Cherrymie Tupas, mother of one of the kids in Bgy Talib, Aroroy, Masbate.
