Winter Storm Grayson turned the region into a winter wonderland.

  1. The first blizzard to hit Long Island in the New Year was Winter Storm Grayson, which formed a weather event meteorologists dubbed a Bomb Cyclone, or Bombogenesis, due to the rapid deepening of the low-pressure system.
  2. The storm dumped more than 16 inches of snow on parts of LI on Thursday, causing many schools and businesses to close for the day, some even through Friday.
  3. Of course, not everyone was as excited about the snow as kids getting the day off of school.
  4. Only the brave dared venture out to join in the big dig.
  5. Others preferred to just watch from the warmth of their homes...well, what they could see out of their windows, anyway.
  6. Although officials urged everyone to stay home and off the roads, some people just couldn't help themselves.
  7. While the artsy among us looked for the beauty in it all.
  8. But hey, at least it's Friday!
