2013 Gilder Lehrman Institute Seminar

The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, one of the leading educational foundations in the country, has selected The University of Texas at Austin as a distinguished institution for training the next generation of history teachers. UT's seminar is led by Professor Jeremi Suri.

  1. Teachers arrived in Austin and began their weeklong seminar on June 23. In addition to research methods and classroom pedagogy, teachers will learn how to use social media as a communication tool using hashtag #GLIUT2013 to follow the seminar on Twitter. 
  2. With a focus on the history of U.S. foreign policy, the Gilder Lehrman seminar includes readings and lectures by distinguished University of Texas at Austin faculty, as well as campus tours of archives and book collections. The goal of the workshop is to help bring new research and excitement about history into classrooms across the country.

  4. But the week wasn't only full of tours of the great archival resources of @UTAustin. @JeremiSuri filled their days with a multitude of lectures on pedagogy, using multi-media in curriculum and how teachers can better incorporate primary sources and original research in their classroom.
