Their team is working to improve the sustainability of the City of Somerville's Mobile Farmer's Market. Analissa says, "My favorite thing about this MBA program is that it's not your typical MBA where everyone is competitive with each other. Instead, we're challenged academically while helping each other grow, and we share many of the same values." #HellerHustle #socialjustice #HellerSchool #BrandeisUniversity

  4. #humansofheller #HellerAtWork MBA/SID student Huong Le, "On Obama's first trip to Vietnam last week, he delivered a speech about the normalization of the 2 countries' relationships (The speech went viral in Vietnam. It was so beautifully written.) One of the details he mentioned was preserving World Heritages like Son Doong cave for our children and grandchildren. Now, #SaveSonDoong is a campaign I've been running for almost 2 years to protect the largest cave in the world from mass tourism (cable car & etc). So I was particularly moved by that part. Hence, when he traveled to my city the next day and held a meeting with young leaders (YSEALI = Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative), I was determined to ask him questions around that topic. And so he talked about conservation in particular to sustainable development in general, including climate change mitigation and clean energy. At the end I gave him a #SaveSonDoong t-shirt, which I'm really glad he accepted."

  5. #humansofheller "How was my first semester at Heller? Wonderful, I think is the one word that could summarize the whole experience. Heller is quite diverse, quite deep, and complicated sometimes, but it's always an interesting place to learn, to interact, to reflect on our previous experiences and current knowledge. I think one of the most interesting things here in Heller is that most of the professors and students have hands-on experience, that allows them to give and to get real-life advice and knowledge. We can consider not just how theory interacts with practice, but also how social policies and health policies formed at the highest levels of our communities impacts the field and the lowest levels of our communities. I think there are something like 70 countries represented here at Heller. Every conversation, every interaction, I learn something new." --Ahmed Ghanem, MS student in Global Health Policy and Management, originally from Egypt.

  7. Christopher Krause, senior assistant director of admissions, (part 2/2): "...There's also so much learning and human connection that happens in Zinner between students, faculty and staff. Capturing the beauty of this physical space, as well as the sense of community it naturally fosters, never seems to get old for me. It's actually pretty inspiring when you stop to think about our shared mission and vision."

  8. Christopher Krause, senior assistant director of admissions, (part 1/2): "I'm really into photography, and so working in an office that peers out into Zinner Forum is kind of a photographer's dream. It's such a photographic space, especially with the new artwork that was recently installed. There's so much natural light that flows throughout the entire forum, especially at this time of year..." #humansofheller

  9. #HumansofHeller Dolores Acevedo-Garcia: "We are preparing for a presentation that we're giving on Monday to the Transatlantic Policy Lab, that is the city of #Boston and the city of #Athens, Greece getting together to talk about resilience in both cities. We have prepared a lot of data for Boston. The Transatlantic Policy Lab made the decision to focus on issues of social inequality because they signal a lack of resilience. All of our work is on equity issues, and this is a unique opportunity for us to provide data that we think are very important, and are also very meaningful and useful for the group that is doing this project." #socialjustice #data #HellerSchool #Brandeis #BrandeisUniversity

I want to be involved in the next reincarnation of those towns."

  12. @rodromoran sent in this picture he took while drafting the logo for the new student group HellerForward. He says, "The Heller School by itself it is not a synonym of #socialjustice. It is the students, faculty and staff who tirelessly fight to uplift marginalized individuals, groups and communities in the United States and around the world, who are responsible for Heller's reputation and it is our job to keep our school and #BrandeisUniversity to the highest standards of #inclusion and #diversity. We are Heller's engine. We move Heller Forward." #HumansofHeller

  13. #HumansofHeller Ndukaku Ogbonna, MS/International Health Policy and Management. "I have a class at 2 pm, however I am currently doing some work on my final paper in Cost Effectiveness. Cost-effectiveness has become very important especially for low- and medium-income countries where there are limited resources with decreasing health budgets. For instance, the Abuja Declaration recommended countries to budget up to 15% of their total annual budget on health, however almost all the countries who signed that declaration are not able to keep it. A number of them are decreasing their health budget instead of increasing it. Therefore, cost-effectiveness has become so important for these countries to manage their available resources effectively and efficiently." #HellerSchool #BrandeisUniversity #HealthPolicy #InternationalHealth #gradschool

It's about expanded access to #preschool #education for 3 and 4-year-olds in Massachusetts, which now has the most expensive early care in the country. It's about $13,000 per year, which rivals in-state college tuition." #SocialJustice #gradschool #MPP #HellerSchool #BrandeisUniversity

  15. #HumansofHeller Nicole McCauley, MBA'16 (left) "We're here with #FordHall4Flint. We wanted to do something that would bring the Brandeis community together to help people in #Flint, Michigan. We've had a campaign for a month which ends March 4th, so this is our final push to get donations to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint as well as relief items which are going to a church in the area." Shayna Jones, MPP'17 (right) "As a group, Ford Hall has worked to fight injustice against black and brown bodies. When we work to push back against systems that allow for injustice, we're helping people not only on an individual level but helping communities and families. The injustice in Flint is pressing and urgent and there's a need to do this work, so that's what we're doing." #SocialJustice #HellerSchool #Brandeis #BrandeisUniversity #MPP #MBA

I'm dedicated to the idea that in five to 10 years, students will still remember important lessons. I now realize it's not what I teach, but what they learn." 17. #HumansofHeller Rodrigo Moran, MS-SID'16 student "It’s just a regular day of classes. Which at the Heller School means that we had an event at lunch to celebrate the International Mother Tongue Day. It was a great way to showcase the more than 30 languages represented through the students of Heller. It’s just another example of how, this year, I’ve seen a growth in student-driven initiatives. And I love that. I love seeing more independent groups saying, ‘OK, I want to do this. I want to talk about my culture, I want to talk about my language.’ It’s great that we’re hearing different voices. Otherwise it would be the same core group of people over and over.” #HellerSchool #HellerHustle #Brandeis #BrandeisUniversity
