  3. Ok, so that didn't really happen. But with 30 minutes and some Photoshop templates, we can sure make it look like it did.

In the last couple of weeks, the battle rap world has been flooded with fakes, frauds and hoaxes. It's easy: whip up a bunk account, send a few incendiary tweets to battlers with big followings and then sit back and watch the RTs fly.

With the amount of legitimate controversy already surrounding the Arcane/Dizaster battle, (covered extensively by us here) we figured TOBattleBlog should air out some of the scams that have been bamboozling battle fans.

    THE FAKE ARCANE TWITTER ACCOUNT

Only a few days after the Diz/Arc battle went down, some enterprising/bored fan started the @9O5ARCANE account on Twitter. The real account is @905ARCANE, the fake has the letter 'O' rather than a zero. Both use the same profile photo.
  4. And started calling out heavyweights, even luring a few into arguments:
  5. The real Arcane eventually responded:
  6. Why it's clearly a fake:

  7. They got the name/photo down convincingly, but with a closer look we can see that the account was created on Jan. 29, only tweeted 69 times and has 100 followers. Definitely not real.

  8. THE FAKE ARCANE/CAUSTIC FACEBOOK CONVERSATION

  9. This fake popped up on the rapmusic.com battle forums on Feb. 5 in a thread called "Arcane and Caustic Convo #2." Again, this happened before the official YouTube footage came out, so most fans were basing their opinions on hearsay and rumour.

Dizaster had already exposed collusion between Arcane and Caustic, and the story just kept getting juicier with Arcane uploading more screenshots of their conversation to his Facebook page.

That's around the time when these showed up:

  12. See the whole thread here:
  13. Why it's clearly a fake:

  14. This one's a bit tougher. The look is pretty good, but I think the problem is that it's just too perfect. It reads like a script for exactly what needs to be said to fan the flames of controversy. If something looks too good to be true, then it probably is.

Also, Caustic shut it down pretty quickly:

  16. THE FAKE MESSAGE THAT SKETCH MENACE WAS WRITING FOR ARCANE:

  17. After three weeks of complaining about the decision and RT-ing fan support, Dizaster starts calling out Sketch Menace, claiming there's proof that Sketch helped Arcane write bars to use against Diz.
