Women and Solo Travelling

@pinthecreep hosted an insightful tweet chat on the 5th of May on the topic "WOMEN AND SOLO TRAVELLING". It gave an idea of the vibrant views of people on this delicate topic.

  1. @pinthecreep @vanditamorarka @INBreakthrough @MKBKSH_ @MelindaRooke Solo travelling for women especially during night is really hard!!! Parents never like their daughters to travel alone at night!!!!
  2. @pinthecreep A1. Yes, but not very far. The first experience was a bit scary
  3. @pinthecreep A1. Post the first experience, I've always enjoyed travelling alone
  4. @pinthecreep A1. Sometimes a bit uncomfortable while travelling in trains in general compartments #solotravel
  5. @renitasiqueira That is great ! It is sad that we women enjoy travelling but cannot do that freely!
  6. @pinthecreep Yes I have. And if I use busy streets, public transport and stay aware of my surroundings I am typically okay. I also don't drink much.
  7. @pinthecreep Yes, I travel alone a lot. And according to me it's safe outside. There are some things which we have to take care.
  8. @pinthecreep travelled abroad&it was quite nice besides my own inhibitions of getting out after 8 pm.The dark lanes &isolated alleys have that effect.
  9. @pinthecreep In India though unless I have somebody with me I haven't ventured out after sunset at all.
  10. @supreetksingh That is very nice to hear ! Do you think it changes your outlook towards the world?
  11. @supreetksingh That is very nice to hear ! Do you think it changes your outlook towards the world?
  12. @pinthecreep The society should stop thinking this as a taboo. Women in our country doesn't lack any courage. They are demotivated.
  13. @pinthecreep It does.. a bit.. a few places feel safer than the rest but somehow the fear of being a single girl anywhere follow like a shadow
  14. @pinthecreep Berlin, Montreal and lots of places in India. Loved it. #solotravel#safety
  15. @pinthecreep Women should travel solo if they can. It changes the way we look at things. #solotravel#safety
  16. @pinthecreep #solotravel #safety - I started by visiting known places Individually, it boosts my confidence and ability to handle things on my own.
  17. @pinthecreep This proves that women are independent they need not any man to take care of her.She is able to do anything by herself.
  18. @ashwini_syed oh great to here ! Was it easier to travel in India or abroad?
  19. @pinthecreep They are faced with lot of stargazing from society. People see them as helpless creatures. They dont get to have proper privacy.
  20. @pinthecreep A1 Time tells me whether I should travel solo or not. 9.00 pm is my deadline #solotravel
  21. @pinthecreep A2 To which area I am going, how far is that area from my residence and what is the mode of transport for it #solotravel #safety
  22. @pinthecreep Not for me. Being safe is important and my parents are not stressed out because of my late travelling is more important for me
  23. @pinthecreep Women should travel solo if they can. It changes the way we look at things. #solotravel#safety
  24. @pinthecreep A3. Because the world is unsafe, because people might take advantage of them #Solotravel
  25. @pinthecreep I guess it is safety again and creepy strangers ogling.
  26. @pinthecreep Because there are people in our society who think a lonely girl is not able to protect herself from creatures. Such a rubbish taboo.
  27. @pinthecreep A3. Bcoz women are more vulnerable to harassment and danger when they are alone, coz there's no one to protect them #safety #solotravel
  28. @pinthecreep Primary socialization!! The belief that women are incapable of handling things alone, they might fall in trouble.#solotravel
  29. @pinthecreep It totally depends on that woman if she is bold enough then there will be no problem but if she is thinks weak then the world wil treat same
  30. @pinthecreep freedom to women as given to men, starting from even bringing their essentials from a general store.
  31. @pinthecreep No idea of ground realities. Too negative news in media, dramatisation of events rather than statistical and insightful news.
  32. @akvjkar @pinthecreep yea, but I think the safety aspect usually is a bigger concern which most women can't get over at all.
  33. @pinthecreep Yes, there need to be statistical and insightful write ups which educate a woman to take care of her safety better.
  34. @pinthecreep All rape stories should drive home the point that these rapists are worst scum of planet .. not keep portraying woman's horror angle.
  35. @pinthecreep Currently there is dramatic and horror driven stories usually portraying women as victims. Instead sketch the criminals as shit.
  36. @pinthecreep Currently there is dramatic and horror driven stories usually portraying women as victims. Instead sketch the criminals as shit.
  37. @pinthecreep A5. When people say girls/women shouldn't travel alone, question them and ask why not? #solotravel #Safety
  38. @MelindaRooke @pinthecreep I agree completely. Being aware of your surroundings at all times is key.
  39. @pinthecreep By documenting our travel stories n sharing online..guiding n addressing other travelers' queries..
  40. @pinthecreep freedom to women as given to men, starting from even bringing their essentials from a general store.
