2014 World Cup Send-Off Series Game 2 live blog: U.S. vs. Turkey

The USMNT takes to the field for the second time in its World Cup tune-up, meeting Turkey at Red Bull Arena at 1 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.

  1. Stay tuned for more coverage from SI writers at Red Bull Arena. To kick it off, here are Grant Wahl's Three Thoughts on the match:
  2. FT | The U.S. defeats Turkey, 2-1, in its second pre-World Cup friendly. Another victory, but like Tuesday's 2-0 result over Azerbaijan, the result doesn't tell the full story. Still a lot left to be desired for the U.S.
  3. 90' | GOAL — Turkey pulls one back on a penalty. Geoff Cameron called for a handball on the goal line, and Selçuk Inan puts the spot kick home. 2-1.
  4. 87' | This game, once full of life and end-to-end chances, is limping across the finish line.
  5. Video of Dempsey's tap-in goal for the U.S.'s second:
  6. MNT vs. Turkey: Clint Dempsey Goal - June 1, 2014
  7. A selection of reactions to Altidore's latest miss:
  8. 81' | Altidore in one-on-one with Kivrak, who comes up with a good save. Jozy still trying to snap that goalless drought.
  9. 79' | Green goes down after a high challenge inside the penalty area right in front of the referee. That could have easily been called.
  10. Hard to imagine this sort of performance getting any result at the World Cup:
  11. 69' | Mix Diskerud is on for Graham Zusi as the final U.S. sub.
  12. 68' | Guzan punches out ensuing free kick:
  13. 66' | Green with a shaky first touch in the penalty area on a great opportunity. Nearly a dream appearance there for Green.
  14. 64' | Julian Green and DeAndre Yedlin do enter now. Despite the rumors that Yedlin would be used as a midfield substitute, he's slotting in at right back here...and misplaying his first pass terribly.
  15. And a good point on a sub already made. Of course, González got some minutes against Azerbaijan, so maybe it's just squad rotation (which Klinsmann said he would do in the friendlies).
  16. A couple subs on the way momentarily:
