2014 #NPHWOSU Wrap-Up

Another #NPHW is in the books, and Ohio State's College of Public Health worked throughout the week to promote this year's theme, "Public Health: Starts Here," across campus and beyond.

  1. Monday: Be Healthy from the Start.

  3. Tuesday: Don't Panic.

  4. The College of Public Health presents its first Thompson Public Health Award to CVS Caremark Corporation for its national public health efforts. The company recently announced a decision to pull tobacco from its 7,600 stores by October 1, 2014, costing an estimated $2 billion in lost revenue. CVS has set a powerful example in promoting good health.
  5. The College of Public Health hosted a sneak preview screening of PBS’s The Raising of America, scheduled for release in Fall of 2014. Amy Acton, assistant professor of health services management and policy in the College of Public Health, won the contest to name the movie. Created by the producers of Unnatural Causes, this film explores how a strong start for the children of America leads not only to better individual life course outcomes, but also to a healthier, safer, better educated and more prosperous and equitable America. A panel of experts on child health led a discussion following the one-hour screening.

  9. Thursday: Eat Well.

The lunch featured interactive food stations from local restaurants, as well as an info session on the Farm to Table Study Program with veterinary public health professor Armando Hoet and past participants Kara Cover and Janet Buffer.
  11. Participants in today's Farm to Table luncheon left with a full stomach and a better understanding on where our food comes from. Thank you to the vendors and industry professionals that made today possible! #NPHWOSU #NPHW
