You cannot break down a door and expect nobody to notice.

This Saturday in frigid weather, lines to an exhibition of paintings by Russian artist Valentin Serov in Moscow were several kilometers long and people were literally breaking down the doors to get in.

The show, which has run since October, was set to close after the weekend. A nanosecond after news of people fighting their way in broke, the great Russian humor mill began churning out a comical response. Cue the Confused Travolta meme...

...as well as a face-palming version of Serov's Girl With Peaches, one of the highlights of the current show. She's clearly not impressed with the almost-stampede: "That feeling when you've been sitting here with peaches since October and they break down the doors in January..."

Also, why do people break down a door to see Girl With Peaches, but nobody appreciates this Peach with Girls?

Maybe the rush to get into the exhibition happened because of some dubious characters joining the queue? Here's Sharikov, writer Mikhail Bulgakov's man with a dog's heart (or rather dog with a man's body), announcing his plans: "I'm going to get in line. For the Serov show."

One Twitter account even found a decidedly political twist to the broken door incident: "In the line for the Serov exhibition, provocateurs are passing around the rumor that the girl's peaches are Turkish," the tweet reads.

"Damn, you think I painted the peaches so that you'd break down the damn doors?"
