- For those of you who didn't watch Russia lose 3-0 to Wales on Monday night, let's start with this little clip.
- Tweeted several times after the end of Russia's Euro 2016 dreams, it was one of many reactions to a dismal performance by Leonid Slutsky's team. As the outcome became clearer and clearer, supporters took to Twitter to voice their reactions.
- And it's not as if the fans didn't do their best to help.
- "It's not helping," one Twitter user wrote, in reference to the array of Russian Orthodox icons and crosses circling their television set.
- This conversation was also making the rounds before the game was even over: "Who do you support?" — "Russia." — "And after that?"
- "The Russian team created many dangerous opportunities, but Wales only took advantage of three of them."
- "Your face when the Welsh team cut through your defense like pee cuts through snow."
- Many reactions alluded to the Russian word бревно (brevno), which translates as "log." It is frequently used as an expression for someone stupid or incapable.
- "The Russian team on their way home from Euro 2016."
- For these Russian newspapers, their players are nothing but a bunch of "Toulosers."
- "The Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the Russian football squad," reads this post, which was retweeted over 100 times. The Islamic State is a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
- Accompanied by a photo to perfectly illustrate the words, this caption reads: "In our country, many people can't play football, but some do it all the same for a lot of money."
- "Those weren't our football players — you can buy those kits in any shop" reads a tweet that harkens back to Putin's 2014 claims about troops in Crimea who were spotted wearing Russian uniforms.
- But what may well be the blackest bit of humor came in this tweet: "UEFA offered us a chance to leave the regular way, by disqualification for beating up the English. But no, we just had to play football."
