  2. Tweeted several times after the end of Russia's Euro 2016 dreams, it was one of many reactions to a dismal performance by Leonid Slutsky's team. As the outcome became clearer and clearer, supporters took to Twitter to voice their reactions.
  3. And it's not as if the fans didn't do their best to help.
  4. "It's not helping," one Twitter user wrote, in reference to the array of Russian Orthodox icons and crosses circling their television set.
  5. This conversation was also making the rounds before the game was even over: "Who do you support?" — "Russia." — "And after that?"
  6. "The Russian team created many dangerous opportunities, but Wales only took advantage of three of them."
  7. "Your face when the Welsh team cut through your defense like pee cuts through snow."
  8. Many reactions alluded to the Russian word бревно (brevno), which translates as "log." It is frequently used as an expression for someone stupid or incapable.
  9. "The Russian team on their way home from Euro 2016."
  10. For these Russian newspapers, their players are nothing but a bunch of "Toulosers."
  11. "The Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the Russian football squad," reads this post, which was retweeted over 100 times. The Islamic State is a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
  12. Accompanied by a photo to perfectly illustrate the words, this caption reads: "In our country, many people can't play football, but some do it all the same for a lot of money."
  13. "Those weren't our football players — you can buy those kits in any shop" reads a tweet that harkens back to Putin's 2014 claims about troops in Crimea who were spotted wearing Russian uniforms.
  14. But what may well be the blackest bit of humor came in this tweet: "UEFA offered us a chance to leave the regular way, by disqualification for beating up the English. But no, we just had to play football."
