  2. After the Court of Arbitration in Lausanne upheld the ban that prevents 68 Russian track-and-field athletes from competing in the Rio Olympics, Russian social media users decided to up their game.
  3. In the first few hours after the ruling, the jokes were flying faster, higher and stronger.
  4. One focus of the jokes was Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva. "Proof: Isinbayeva spotted flying over the Rio Olympics," this account tweeted.
  5. Much in the same vein, this tweet depicts former Children’s Ombudsman Pavel Astakhov. He resigned in early July after it became known that he had asked the survivor of a deadly boating accident, “How was your swim?”

  9. "Does anybody need 7 tons of meldonium? We won't be needing it after all," this parody account of Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, tweeted.
