Global Forum on Migration and Development: Migrating out of Poverty round-up

Our reflections on the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) 2017...


  1. The main theme of the tenth GFMD, which was held in Berlin from the 28-30 June 2017, was"Towards a Global Social Contract on Migration and Development." The Migrating out of Poverty team attended, represented by Kellynn Wee, Kuda Vanyoro, and Anas Ansar. This is a collection of some of their reflections on social media.
  2. In advance of the GFMD we published reflections on the process within these international policy processes and what academia can contribute to an evidence-informed response.
  3. We also put together Thinking Twice: Myths About Migration which drew attention to five broad assumptions which underpin many civil society and policy-related conversations about how migration works and how migration should work. In challenging them, we sought to strengthen policy and advocacy by centring the lived realities of the men, women, and children who move.
