Your mom's money advice

We asked you to share any financial tips your mother has given you over the years. Here's the motherly advice that stuck.

  1. My mother taught me there are two things one should protect at all costs: your teeth and your credit score.
  2. My mother's philosophy on money was simple. 'Whats in your wallet and why haven't you given it to me yet?"
  3. Pay off your credit card in full each month.
  4. Susan Ory taught me to work for the things you want, be generous and be grateful for what you have.
  5. About the same for me, "Linda, never have debt and save 15% of your paycheck and you will be comfortable." She was so right...R.I.P Mom!!
  6. My mom doesn't give much advice. She leads by example. And the most important thing I learned from her? Live within your means, but make sure you live!
  7. Neither a borrower nor a lender be. She didn't come up with it, but she sure preached it.
