PSC Fellow Lilian Bui: Cycling mobility in New Zealand

This summer, Lily Bui is working in Christchurch, New Zealand, in order to design, develop, and deploy a mobile app that tracks cyclist commutes and assesses mobility patterns of cyclists after the 2011 earthquake. She is working with the New Zealand based nonprofit SensingCity and the University of Canterbury.

  2. Hi! I'm a graduate student in MIT's Comparative Media Studies and I'm spending the summer (southern hemisphere winter) in Christchurch, New Zealand, working on an urban sensing project. I'll be posting pictures from down south this week. Looking forward to sharing my experience with you! -Lily (@dangerbui) #MITservice @mitpsc

  5. Totally nerdy...but I helped organize a community cycling event in #Christchurch, #NewZealand, that involved GPS painting the Arc de Triomphe in city streets to celebrate cycling culture and the end of the Tour de France. Here are several versions of the maps we came up with! The arrow on the top right of the last two maps points to the new location of a bike shop. #GIS #MITservice @mitpsc -Lily (@dangerbui)

  8. #Christchurch is getting its first-ever bike share program! Here's the first model. Their first fleet is launching next week in select locations throughout the city. These bikes produce 5V of electricity. Sensing City is planning to partner with them to test and deploy mobile air quality sensors on these bikes. #MITservice @mitpsc -Lily (@dangerbui) #NewZealand
