  1.  We learn that it's been as challenging to deal with the aftermath as it was to learn of the diagnosis and face treatment, but also found that Rica is a great source of inspiration.
  2. First, we introduce Rica, giving links to the blog posts she wrote for us and to the story we published in The Journal News and on LoHud.com about her journey over the past year.

  3. We @Lohud first met Rica when she was being outfitted for a wig at the American Cancer Society in White Plains. We asked her to share her story on our blog. She chronicled her diagnosis, chemotherapy and even a trip to Austin for Livestrong, where she shaved her head.
  4. Chemo Day 18: Shave & a Hair Cut, 2 Bits
  5. Even though she knew it was coming, when her hair started falling out it seemed to take her by surprise. Her blog post about it last year was one of the most emotionally raw in her month-long series.
  6. So a natural was to ask about her wig, which she doesn't need anymore.
  7. One year later, Rica has had some time to contemplate her journey, so we ask how others might benefit from her wisdom.
  8. Rica wrote a poignant post about her year anniversary of being diagnosed.
  9. Heather Salerno, one of our features writers, is working on a story about the human genes linked to breast cancer, so she asked about Rica's testing.
