- LIVE BLOG ELECTION NIGHT (n9459103)
Oh great here we are. It is election night. Which I guess would make this the live blog of election night. Will it be another three years of moaning and groaning from every man and his dog about the apparent incompetency of our onion-eating leader?
10am. Here we go. It’s the people’s favourite; Alan Jones (because who else would we listen to about politics?)- Jones is chatting to Liberal numbers man Senator James McGrath. By chatting, I mean grilling.
Wait did Jones just call McGrath a bed-wetter? Boom.
Senator McGrath says he doesn’t care what Alan Jones thinks.Of course.
Oh it’s the classic Labor v Liberal; he said, she said. - McGrath to Jones : “YOU ARE THE KING OF THE BEDWETTERS. You are a grub. You campaigned against the Campbell-Newman government.” *drops mic*
10.20am SHORTEN'S ADDRESS The election is too close to call but we’ve got statements from Shorten and Turnbull now.
Shorten: THE LABOUR PARTY IS BACK. Thousands and thousandsof supporters should have great pride in what we’ve accomplished.
In the past three years we’ve united and I have a nice redtie and three years after the liberals came to power in a landslide they havelost their mandate.
He looks smug. What does he know that we don’t? Oh therecome’s the finger point.
Turnbull’s economic program has been rejected by the peopleof Australia.
Turnbull has failed to deliver stability tonight says Shortenwhich stings because stability is exactly what people want.
Bill Shorten sounds eerily like Frank Walker from NationalTiles when he delivers these promises. Classic Australia.
10.22am The crowd are cheering like it’s some sort of State of Origin final.
The ‘thank yous’ have started. Lots of clapping. More chanting. It’s like a rave in here.
Oh this is exhausting.
Did someone say solidarity?
Shout out to the “Bill Bus”. Help there’s a Bill Bus?
10.24am “Tonight is about the Australian people…the dreams they have for them and theirfamilies. It is time for our parliament to get back to work.”
It’s buzzword time: Climate change, Medicare, NBN, Gonski.
“Being called to serve you country is a rare honour and privilege indeed. We live in a remarkable and gifted country, a generous and diverse nation. For every generation, in our cities and regions…we are the party for women, for first Australians, for apprentices and for those who support marriage equality.”
*cue Australian anthem*
“Labour will not leave you behind. We will not let you down”
“We will build a better country for ALL Australians.”
Shorten out.
The 2016 Federal election is still too close to call but Liberal Party of Australia Leader Malcolm Turnbull’s also about to make astatement.
10.30am TURNBULL'S ADDRESS “Tonight, tonight we have every confidence we will form a coalition government.”
No one saw that one coming.
Votes are still being counted at least until 2am tomorrowmorning. The final result may not be known until next week.
Turnbull gives a shout out to John Howard. Cheering ensues.
“The values that we have meet the challenges of our times!”
He’s pointing a lot; it’s like some sort of a finger puppet show.
Turnbull is calling out texts from ‘Medicare’ that were send to thousands of Australians claiming Medicare would be privatised by the Liberals. He’s sure the police will investigate this lying campaign from Labor.- More can be found on Medicare privatisation debate here...
Is Medicare under threat? Making sense of the privatisation debateMany Australians will go to the polls on July 2 believing the future of Medicare is at stake. In a sense it is - but not because of the government's plans, now ditched under the heat of a campaign, to outsource IT functions.
“Freedom. Business. Enterprise. Entrepreneurship. “
“I am sure that over the week we will be able to form a majority government.”- For another look at the Liberal Party's policies
2016 Election PoliciesCoalition election policies: The Coalition's Policy to Build the Flinders Link Rail Project The Coalition's Policy to Help Families with Diabetes The Coalition's Policy to Upgrade the Cairns Marine Precinct- 10.35am Votes will continue to be counted before the result is announced. Result expected mid-week.
