- Developer Brianna Wu has been tweeting about "safety concerns" around PAX East for several days. Recently, she inadvertendly retweeted an image showing an anti-GamerGater making threats against gamers. She was under the mistaken impression that the tweeter was supportive of GamerGate.
- Let's take a closer look at this account.
- It belongs to the user "elotente", who goes by the display name "Rubby Johnny".
- Here are the tweets in question, which were originally made in early October.
- It seems obvious that he is both anti-gamer and anti-gamergate. But the tweets are still a little ambiguous, so maybe Wu just made a mistake.
- Here are some less ambiguous tweets.
- He also uses common SJW phrases like "manchildren" ,"fedora" and "#notallmen"
- Threats of violence against #GamerGate supporters will be of no surprise to anyone who has followed the hashtag since the beginning. In the early days of the hashtag, threats against gamergate supporters were commonplace, although they received sparse attention from the media. I endeavored to cover some of them in the following piece:
#GamerGate - An Issue With Two SidesEditor's note: Allum Bokhari is a political consultant who plays far too many vidya games. After graduating from the University of Oxford with a BA in History & Politics, he spent some time interning with a Government minister in the United Kingdom.- Only David Auerbach of Slate and Mike Diver of Vice made similar (albeit brief) reference to these threats. This was not picked up by the rest of the media.
