Reporting Across the Culture Wars: Engaging Media on Evolution

From March 22nd to March 24th, 2013, a working group of scientists, science writers, and other experts met at the National Evolutionary Synthesis Center in Raleigh, North Carolina to discuss the state of science in the media and how to improve communication between scientists and journalists.

  2. And prior to the meeting, participant Danielle Lee wrote considered outreach to communities that science media doesn't often intersect, or "how science journalism can be implanted in ethnic journalism in the first place."
  3. On Friday morning, the team jumped in.
  4. Group leader Lauri Lebo set the stage.
  5. And session leaders Norman Johnson and T. Ryan Gregory explained what they wanted journalists to know about evolution in "Evolution 101"
  6. First up was the subject of "Tree Thinking"
