LSE Southeast Asia Forum 2016

The inaugural LSE Southeast Asia Forum (SEAF) took place on Friday, 13th May 2016. The Forum was a unique opportunity to engage with Southeast Asia's most critical issues, network with renowned experts on the region and encourage student participation in high-level debates.

  1. The inaugural LSE SEAF was opened by Professor Paul Kelly, Pro-Director for Teaching and Learning at LSE. At the end of his opening remarks, Prof Kelly presented a token of appreciation from LSE SEAC to our donor Professor Saw Swee Hock, whose generosity made the establishment of LSE SEAC and the organisation of LSE SEAF possible.
  2. We were honoured to welcome back LSE alumnus, His Excellency Dr Rizal Sukma, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the UK, to deliver the morning keynote lecture of LSE SEAF, 'A post-ASEAN regional order in East Asia?'.
  3. The first panel of LSE SEAF, chaired by LSE SEAC Associate Jurgen Haacke, was titled 'ASEAN Security' with presentations from Joern Dosch (University of Rostock), Bill Hayton (BBC, Chatham House), Thitinan Pongsudhirak (Chulalongkorn University).
