Saharan sand suffocates London

This week saw the capital's pollution levels soar as sand swept in by air currents from the Sahara teamed up with mist to create a heavy smog.

  6. The Evening Standard said it was a threat to people's London Marathon training plans. Officials refused to go down the route taken in Paris and limit the number of cars which could be driven each day.
