From The Office:
- April, and we are well into the second term. We are looking forward to many great events coming up in the next months and want to make sure you know what is happening at the school. We are very excited about the many clubs and teams going on including junior basketball, chess club, the spring performance and student council events. We also want to make you aware of the upcoming intermediate Heritage Fair, the Scholastic Book Fair, and opportunities to get involved in school council, breakfast club, the outdoor classroom clean-up and trivia night. Please also check out the important dates section at the end to mark on your calendar. Have a wonderful Easter weekend!
- Generous community support for the Breakfast Program at Stevensville Elementary continued in March. Rosehill Auction donated a much-needed full-size freezer. Alan Thompson of Niagara Locates made a generous financial donation toward a yet-to-be purchased industrial toaster. We also want to thank the Waters family and Maloney family for their generous financial support. Niagara Nutrition Partners continues as a partner and has purchased a dishwasher, to be installed in April, dishes and cutlery and gift cards to use toward the purchase of food. Niagara Nutrition Partners has also donated approved foods, including locally grown apples that are collected monthly through a partnership with Bridges Community Health.
Breakfast Program continues to be offered to all students at Stevensville Elementary. Each balanced breakfast served offers all children fresh fruit and milk and a grain/bread. An estimated 350 children were served breakfast each week in March. The regular menu in April is changing to add cold cereal on Mondays.
Snack is now being offered from self-serve baskets in the office.Fresh fruit and crackers are available to all children at first and second nutrition breaks.
Special thanks to Miss Trish and Parent Volunteer Hollee Beals and family for cleaning, organizing and relocating Breakfast Program supplies closer to the Gym over March Break.
Welcome to new volunteers starting in March – thank you Ashley, Julieann and MaryLou! This worthwhile program is excelling due to the effort and creativity of the dedicated and reliable volunteers. A volunteer appreciation night is planned during National Volunteer Appreciation Week in April. Please contact the office if you are interested in joining this team. The time commitment involved is 8:15 to approximately 9:15. Some volunteers sign-up to come in when commitments allow, others have committed to volunteer on a dedicated day or days of the week. Each Breakfast Service needs at least 2 volunteers however there is enough work to keep everyone busy when more are available. Please join us! Sincerely, Maggie LaPlante, breakfast club volunteer and co-ordinator
