"Community Uprising: Katrina, Resilience, Resistance & Culture After 10 Years" Highlights

IWES held a conference on August 20-21, 2015 to centralize the ongoing struggles & resiliency of communities of color in post-Katrina New Orleans & explore the role of culture as a protective factor. It coincided with the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina & brought together international, national & local thought leaders to discuss recovery, community resilience & place. This concept of resilience was problematized within the context of disaster in communities that struggle with chronic & toxic stress.
