Of the three most accepted Christian pilgrimage locations the principality of Vatican City, the focal point of Rome, is considered to be the most holy. Italy is, not only the home of the Pope the Bishop of Rome, and leader of the worldwide Catholic church but, houses some of the most awe-inspiring religious artwork ever created. Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and Pieta are found in Vatican City.
- Fatima, Portugal
Fatima in Portugal is home to one of the most famous Catholic shrines. For centuries it has been reported that the Lady of Fatima appeared before three shepherd children, revealing messages of God to be shared with the world. Here 60,000 people claimed to have born witness to seeing the sun dance. Today people across the world travel to Fatima seeking miracles and to pay homage to the Lady of Fatima.
- Lourdes, France
A journey to Lourdes, France is considered to be a truly blessed event. Lying at the foothills of the Pyrenees, it’s believed that in 1848 a fourteen year old girl named Bernadette is believed to have born a child of Immaculate Conception. Bernadette was later heralded as a saint. Visitors travel to Lourdes year on year to bath and drink blessed water.
