What is the training about? On Saturday the 1st February all the phase 2 teachers in the #Ict4red project got together at Queens College to explore modules 7 and 8 of the Teachers professional development course. Normally the sessions takes place at the schools in Cofimvaba, but as we needed Internet connectivity for Module 8, it was decided to have it at the College. Queens College kindly kindly made their school and their bandwidth available to us and has for some time now been our "town" base.As we have, on previous occasions, experienced difficulty in accommodating all teachers, when accessing the Internet, we got Liquid Telecom to provide additional connectivity at the College.
- Providing internet access to 140 teachers proved to be a daunting task as so many tablets updating apps and Google profiles crippled the supply. As this is a research project we have learned a lot from deploying a satellite solution in this context. As Internet access is a real barrier in rural Cofimvaba we have different connectivity solutions aimed at giving eachers an Internet like experience.
The Gallery Walk
- Getting ready to host so many teachers required the ICT4RED team to pull out all the stops. The facilitators arrived bright and early to set up the working stations and get their classrooms ready for the Gallery Walk. This strategy involves setting up exhibits were teachers can view various topics or issues and then contribute to discussions. For more information and to see what the exhibits entailed, see the topic blog here goo.gl/e5ETDz.
