Compassionate/Bush Conservatism

A term popularised by George W. Bush during his 2000 presidential election campaign to denote a strand of conservative Republican philosophy which took a more compassionate view on such issues as welfare, education, immigration and poverty.

    -These issues that are better solved through cooperation with private companies, charities and religious institutions rather than directly through government departments.
    -Compassionate conservative philosophy argues for policies in support of traditional families, welfare reform to promote individual responsibility, active policing, standards-based schools (No Child Left Behind Act), and assistance (economic or otherwise) to poor countries around the world.
