Cooper-Young Residents Gather to Discuss Parking Garage

The Cooper-Young Community Association held a meeting with residents to talk about the possibility of a new parking structure to be built in the heart of the neighborhood. Greg Darden of Structured Parking Solutions fielded a variety of questions from the residents during the meeting.


  1. It was a decent turnout at the CYCA meeting as the residents enjoyed complimentary spaghetti and soft drinks before it began. Local media from WREG-3, ABC, and WMC-5 were on hand for the talks about the new structured garage in Cooper-Young.
  2. Cooper-Young Business Association Director Tamara Cook talks about the general details of the proposed structure. She then turns the more specific questions about the building to Greg Darden of Structured Parking Solutions
  3. "We don't want our parking to be mostly in out residential areas," Cook explained. She talked about the necessity for more parking in the neighborhood.
  4. Business Development Director Greg Darden speaking to the residents about the details and specifications of the garage. He also took questions and addressed many of the concerns of that were brought up during the discussion.
  5. "Our goal was to not make it look like a parking garage," Darden said.
  6. SPS said that their goal was to "not make it look like a parking garage." Mission accomplished. The structure would also have available space on the ground floor for commercial or retail endeavors.
  7. This is a photo of the proposed area where the structure would be built. It would be on Young Avenue in between Blythe and Meda. It would be free to the public and a lit and covered parking area for residents and tourists.
