  1. Bob Brown has resigned as leader of the Australian Greens parliamentary party, handing the leadership to his deputy Christine Milne. Senator Brown, 67, will also resign from the Senate, after 16 years’ service, when his Tasmanian replacement is available in June.

Mr Brown said he had been thinking about the timing of his resignation in the months since the last election. “I’m of course very sad to go but also happy to make way for the depth of talent that there is in the Greens parliamentary party, both in the party room now and lined up to take future positions as the party grows,” he told reporters during a press conference in Canberra on April 13.
