Race and Sex

To celebrate Valentines Day, End Racism This Generation went to Manchester to host an event about race and sex. Here is what we discovered.

  1. Our race greatly influences how people interact with us sexually. We wanted to know how racist assumptions affect how people are approached, so we asked our followers to tell us the most racist chat up lines they've ever heard
  2. There were a few patterns that emerged. The first was flirting using racist stereotypes as compliments
  3. On some occasions multiple racist stereotypes, including the servitude of Asian women, and the hypersexualisation of 'exotic' bodies, were all used at once
  4. The second pattern  was the  premium put on white ideals of beauty, and complimenting people based on their ability to adhere to it
  5. This was especially true for people from mixed race backgrounds..
  6. The third pattern was exotification of black and Asian bodies based on historically unequal relationships of power.
  7. The final pattern was the assumed desirability of the white body
  8. We totally agree.
  9. Back to the event...
  10. Our first speaker was Joy Goh-Mah who spoke about the exotification of Asian women.
