Parliamentary Debate on Detention

On Thursday 10th September, the House of Commons debated immigration detention. The debate focused on the findings of the Parliamentary Inquiry into Immigration Detention, and concluded with a unanimous vote to support the Inquiry's recommendations.

  3. Paul Blomfield MP, who secured the debate, gave an opening speech.
  4. Senior Conservatives David Burrowes and Richard Fuller sponsored the debate alongside Labour MP Paul Blomfield.
  5. 25 MPs from from all major parties attended the debate, with resounding opposition to detention from across the political spectrum.
  6. Some MPs drew on their own experiences of visiting detention, or spoke about the experiences of their constituents
