  1. So series 3 of Modern Life Is Goodish kicked off last night... and there was a fair chunk of material involving Homes Under The Hammer in general and one of its presenters, Martin Roberts in particular.

When a show like that goes out, it's obvious that anyone being talked about is going to find out about it... and so I wasn't at all surprised to see this tweet this morning...
  2. Of course, I'm very happy for Martin to see the show. (I think a good rule of thumb for a comic is that if you wouldn't do some material to someone's face, you probably shouldn't do it at all.) And I think it was all very playful stuff. So I sent him the link...
  3. As you can see, I was cautiously adding that I hoped he'd take it in the right spirit. I think I was adding that for a couple of reasons. 1: Because last year, someone I talked about in the show really took offence at having his writing critiqued. I thought he over-reacted and while I had no reason to suspect that Martin would do the same... it was something I would want to avoid. The second reason is that, during the show someone had sent me a tweet saying...
  4. ... which I'd defended at the time...
  5. It seemed to me that if one not-involved person's casual reading of the material was that I was "destroying" something, maybe an involved-person might feel it even more sharply...

    But Martin was fantastic.
  6. he even added notes on other things we could have taken the rise out of...
  7. At this point... I was looking at the clock and thinking, "maybe he's only watched the stuff that relates to the show... and doesn't realise he's also going to feature in another bit later on that's more about him..."
  8. But I needn't have worried... because 30 minutes later he came back with...
  9. and now I've been invited to join him on the show one day...
  10. ... which I would bloody well love to do.

    Nice.
