Design enters the Age of Experience at SolidWorks World 2014

A recap of Day 1 General Session from SolidWorks World 2014, held in San Diego, Jan 27th, 2014.

  1. This edition of SolidWorks World began with a great announcement: with more than 5600 attendees, this 16th edition is the largest of all SolidWorks World events so far!
  2. With 5600 attendees, #SWW14 is the largest attendance of all SolidWorks World events, says @BertrandSicot http://t.co/pDb37zgjAp

  3. But this first announcement was just a foretaste for many other great ones, and to begin with, SolidWorks Mechanical Conceptual, the first SolidWorks app based on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.
  4. Conceptual. Social. Connected. Instinctive. These are the pillars that define SolidWorks Mechanical Conceptual. Watch the video below to see it in action:
  5. SolidWorks Mechanical Conceptual: The New Way to Tackle Concept Design Problems
  6. The attendance liked the features of SolidWorks Mechanical Conceptual, in particular its collective intelligence capabilities, and its user interface.
  7. Really impressed from the Mechanical Conceptual potentials. It's absolutely a game changer product #sww14
  8. SolidWorks Mechanical Conceptual demonstration really showing the power of collective intelligence! #SWMC #sww14
  9. #SWMC "Works the way you think." Uses 3DDashboard to collaborate via chat, working on one shared design together, easy search. #SWW14
  10. Solidworks Mechanical Conceptual: looking like a great product at #SWW14! Aaron Kelly wowing the crowd with #SWMC
  11. #sww14 the Mechanical Conceptual UI looks damn nice. Modern and "clean"
  12. CEO Bernard Charlès then introduced two examples of other apps of the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. First, how EXALEAD can help crunching big data into actionable parts reuse for designers and engineers.
  13. The other app demonstrated was 3DVIA's HomeByMe, a home design solution, which is the first app of a larger family dedicated to consumers, called "By.Me".
  14. We were glad to have Boyan Slat in the audience, a young student from Delft University (Netherlands) who used SolidWorks to bring life to his dream of cleaning the oceans of plastic garbage patches.
  15. If you're not familiar with Boyan Slat and his OceanCleanup project, watch his great talk at TEDx:

  17. We were also honored to host Dr. Hugh Herr, head of Biomechatronics Research at MIT Media Lab.
