Adopting Britain:70 years of migration

A look back at the much loved and interactive exhibition about immigration as part of Changing Britain Festival at the Southbank Centre

  1. This year saw the Adopting Britain exhibition come to the Southbank Centre as part of the Changing Britain festival, drawing on the work of David Kynaston's Tales of a New Jerusalem.

  4. Attendees were invited to contribute to the 'Where do you come from?' wall, creating a collaborative collage of stories of origin...
  5. ...one example of which is:
  6. A collection of photographic heirlooms and various artifacts illustrating the immigrant family story both past and present was available:
  7. as well as artworks by artists....
  8. and group collaborations (such as the amazing Gatwick Detainees quilt)
  9. Common false perceptions, often fueled by the media, were brought to light as the facts on the ground struck a chord with many people:
