Round two touring Housing and Community Development #SeeMcKinneyWithMe

Our second visit with the Housing and Community Development Department aligned during National Community Development Week April 17-22, 2017. Spearheaded by the National Community Development Association, communities across the country celebrate the work of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The CDBG program benefits all residents in McKinney, primarily targeted to low-to-moderate income persons and households.

  1. Our tour, Tuesday April 18, included interviewing attendees of the McKinney Summit on Youth, a site visit to a house currently being remodeled through the Housing Rehabilitation Program, a meeting at Caldwell Elementary to learn more about the impact of Communities In Schools in McKinney and finally an interview with Martha Cavazos-Fipps, the Environmental Outreach Coordinator for the City of McKinney.
  2. The City of McKinney's Housing Rehabilitation Program is funded by the HOME Investment Partnership Program and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). These funds are awarded to the City of McKinney by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The program provides home repairs for low- and moderate-income homeowners in McKinney. This program provides assistance to more than 60 families for emergency repairs, small repairs and major home rehabilitation. For more information about this program or to schedule a meeting, please call 972-547-7572.
  3. Our next stop is Caldwell Elementary. The Communities in Schools program has been active in their school for the past 3 years and funded under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the City of McKinney.
