Rising in the East

Four years on from the opening ceremony of London 2012, we hosted a conference to look back over the success of the Park, and explore the challenges and opportunities ahead.

  1. The Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, opened the event, stressing the importance of long term employment opportunities and homes:
  2. But how can we ensure local people continue to benefit from job opportunities in the Park?
  3. Then exciting new visuals for the Cultural and Education District were announced:
  4. But the Young Mayor of Newham Alex Jarrett had some questions about the Cultural and Education District:
  5. Innovation, connectivity and collaboration is going to be key to the Park's future economy:
  6. Transport links are crucial to businesses, and there's still some work to be done:
  7. Getting to the Park is one issue, but community cohesion and a sense of place is also crucial. Stratford and the Park must be woven into the fabric of existing neighbourhoods:
  8. Jules Pipe, future Deputy Mayor for planning, regeneration and skills then gave his final speech as Mayor of Hackney:
  9. "We must continue to strive to make this a legacy for all East London; one which benefits people from all backgrounds, which provides those life changing opportunities for the people that need them most.”
