Tanesha Darby #cconhot CatalystCon East - March 15, 2014

  1. This session will focus on the intersections of queerness and blackness and how queer black people are creating safe spaces and a movement for themselves. It will draw upon personal experiences (story telling), popular culture and the international movements and organizations playing key roles in focusing on black queer youth. It will discuss how black sex and queer sex are already marginalized and how the intersection of the two create further marginalization. It will discuss how mainstream queer movements fail to incorporate issues faced by the black community and how mainstream anti racist movements fail to incorporate issues faced by the queer community. It will than discuss what they next steps need to be, in creating a safe movement for queer black people.
