Vernon PD challenges police departments to a dance-off

What's wrong with a little dance-off? It's a fun way to show off some dope moves while having a friendly competition.

  1. In this case, Vernon Police Department started what they hope will become a chain reaction of officers in different cities duking it out on the dance floor - or in this case the police department floor.
  2. The department sent out a tweet last month with a video of Vernon Police Chief Anthony Miranda dancing to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean."
  3. The tweet also challenged agencies to join in the battle.
  4. It included the hashtag #HumanizingTheBadge, which is a movement to form stronger relationships between cops and citizens by making officers more relatable and having residents see past the uniform.
  5. A few weeks later, Glendora Police Department responded with a double whammy. First, Officer Efren Cordura steps out into a classic Carlton dance (you know the one, from "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"). Then he turns the whole vibe around to old school funk with some classic b-boy moves set to an old hip hop track.
  6. They also posted the video on Facebook, which got more than 55,000 views by Saturday afternoon.
  7. Officer Miranda gave some kudos to Glendora and then extended the offer to other departments who think they have the moves.
  8. So, do you have what it takes?
