Javier De Cea’s Lively Mixed Media Abstractions

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of juror-selected Chilean artist Javier De Cea in The Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition. The exhibition opens August 25th and will run until September 8th, 2015. The opening reception will take place Thursday, August 27th, from 6-8 PM. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

  1. Javier De Cea’s mixed media works combine paint, marker, and pencil in compositions that serve as instinctive and visual explorations. By creating lines and splashes of pigment on each canvas, De Cea draws as if writing, suggesting a world of abstract shape and color. His lively compositions capture the chaos of modern life with texture and variety. Some of De Cea’s canvases pulse with warm reds, oranges, and yellows, while others take on cooler colors or exist as black and white examinations of line and form. Triptychs and diptychs divide and balance the material within the spontaneity of each work and highlight the unanticipated repetition in such man-made tumult. In many works the solid white, black, or tinted backdrop teems with subtle variation. This texture adds another layer of interest to each heavily weighted composition, often comprised primarily of negative space.

The Chilean artist Javier De Cea works from Chile and Barcelona and has a background in architecture and fine arts. His areas of knowledge and his personal observations impact his work.

    About the Exhibition

The Exhibition of Selected Artwork from the 30th Chelsea International Fine Art Competition

Twenty-eight artists from eighteen countries are bringing their award-winning art to NYC to participate in the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition. These artists were all selected by a jury of art experts for their vision and skill in their chosen fields. Incorporating photography, sculpture, painting, and mixed media, the artworks display unprecedented quality and mastery. This year marks the thirtieth year of the competition, and the international panel of seven jurors include curators, professors, appraisers, gallerists, and one museum president, bringing their unique art expertise to the selection process. It is no wonder, therefore, that the works chosen for the exhibition are comprised of such a skilled set of contemporary fine artists.
