Reactions to Apple's iPhone 5 Announcement

  1. Hundreds of journalists were invited to the launch of the new iPhone 5 at an event in San Francisco. A number of journalists watching from afar commented that they were disappointed by the latest Apple event.
  2. So far it sounds like this is the first post-Steve iPhone and it shows. Apple's turning into a normal technology company.
  3. Lesson from iPhone 4S & 5: Apple may sell a lot of them, but product launches just aren't exciting any more.
  4. As a business journalist, I find it deeply depressing to watch the inevitable media frenzy about an incrementally new Apple product.
  5. A number of Twitter users cracked jokes about the hoopla.
  6. Did I miss them showing the iPhone 5 furthering humanity's reach into the cosmos and fulfilling the dreams of a generation?
  7. @WSJ #iThink i'll wait for an iPhone that can make me coffee.
  8. The iPhone 5 is just like my boyfriend! I don't have one.
  9. Apple summary: Part I: We're an awesome company. Part II Your old phone is now no good. Upgrade now.
  10. We asked our followers what they thought of the new iPhone 5, encouraging them to use an #iThink hashtag in their responses. The reaction to the new device varied. A few said the updates were good, just not amazing.
  11. @WSJ #iThink For tech savvy users the iPhone 5 will be phenomenal. However, for the leisurely aesthetic user, it's a disappointment. No wow.
  12. #iThink Apple has done exactly as expected & kept the gold standard. Some improvements are big, others are smaller, but the whole is great.
  13. #iThink Apple made the necessary upgrades to the iPhone. Nothing groundbreaking, but as smartphones mature there is less room for "Wow!"
  14. Others said they expected more from Apple and questioned whether the company was still innovative.
  15. #iThink Apple could have done better. A slimmer phone with a wider screen. Its not like any other company has done that already
  16. @WSJ #iThink this is a joke. It took #Apple 2 years to up the screen size by a 1/2 inch and change the '4' to a '5'?
  17. @WSJ #iThink there is nothing for Samsung to copy now that iPhone has nothing new to revolutionize
  18. Some Apple fans compared CEO Tim Cook's event unfavorably to those hosted by late founder Steve Jobs.
  19. @WSJ The question as to whether apple's innovation died with Steve Jobs will only get more frequent in the coming days #iThink
  20. @WSJ #iThink iPhone 5 is bit underwhelming to say the least. I miss seeing Steve Jobs instead of Phil Schiller doing the keynote #notmagical
  21. And some people complained they were sick of the whole thing.
