Global Goals @ Global Citizen Festival 2015

To mark the UN's launch of the Global Goals to end extreme poverty by 2030, the Global Citizen Festival gathered world leaders, musicians and an expected 60,000 attendees. President Kim took to the stage, helping to inspire people around the world to take action and become global citizens.

  1. Why do we need the Sustainable Development Goals? The Global Goals finish what the Millennium Development Goals started 15 years ago: ending extreme poverty, eliminating inequality, and boosting shared prosperity.
  2. On September 25, 2015, the United Nations officially adopted the Sustainable Development Goals. Meanwhile, preparations for the following day's Global Citizen Festival celebrating the UN's Global Goals were underway in New York City's Central Park.

At the same time, President Kim was also in New York, prepping for the Global Citizen Festival, where he would provide an update on the World Bank's $15 billion commitment for water and sanitation solutions in support of Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All. A special guest from Sesame Street would join President Kim on stage.

  6. Once on stage, President Kim shares with the crowd about the role clean water and safe sanitation plays in meeting the Global Goals.
