#OZPBLCHAT Week 2, Q4: What types of choices should students be given during projects? (AND) b. How do I give my...

Mammoth chat.

  1. Again starting with some tweets related to earlier discussion :-)
  2. @1rebelnohorse @waginski tis a hard lesson to learn..and to commit to. maybe this post might help? Make room bit.ly/NzmQcp #ozpblchat
  3. @charte @reduxockham #OZPBLCHAT w recent unit on social issues, Ss had choice of 8 issues, generated own driving Qs re own issue, re unit
  4. Q4:
  5. Next question!! Q4. a. What types of choices should students be given during projects? #OZPBLCHAT
  6. @BiancaH80 A4: How to find the answers to dq, how to show their understanding, how to meet syllabus requirements #OZPBLCHAT
  7. A4: The amount of choice depends upon the students. Too much choice can be debilitating. #ozpblchat
  8. @sailpip Agree - need to build slowly, let out the rope bit by bit as so diff from what they r used to #OZPBLCHAT
  9. @Madiganda yes and level of student choice and control can even differ within same class #ozpblchat
  10. @sailpip Agree. Kids who need to (re)learn to care need to be given increasingly large choices as they learn to cope with them. #OZPBLCHAT
  11. @1rebelnohorse Love it! All that unlearning that we have to do, it's sort of refreshing as well don't you think? #OZPBLCHAT
  12. @ShaunMason79 Refreshing... Terrifying. Same same. Brings the interest back into my work, though. #OZPBLCHAT
  13. @1rebelnohorse the (re)learning is difficult for some students. "just tell me what you want me to do..." but they can change #ozpblchat
  14. @sailpip Agree. Offer four choices but have the 4th be "your choice - negotiate with teacher" #OZPBLCHAT
  15. “@Teacher2Poet: @sailpip Agree. Offer four choices but have the 4th be "your choice - negotiate with teacher" #OZPBLCHAT” All choices neg?
  16. @waginski @sailpip All neg defeats the purpose of choice - some stds will be rabbits in headlights when offered too much freedom #OZPBLCHAT
  17. @waginski @teacher2poet @sailpip Like the idea of negotiation. Used in limited ways in the past but kids not keen to take risks #OZPBLCHAT
  18. @Teacher2Poet great idea, eventually, if done over a number of projects, most will end up with the 4th option #ozpblchat.
  19. @Teacher2Poet @waginski @sailpip and this is the 'teachable moment' presented to you ... negotiation is important life skill! #OZPBLCHAT
  20. @Teacher2Poet @sailpip Yes, I suppose give four choices method great, but couldn't 'play' with them a bit? Therefore all neg? #OZPBLCHAT
  21. A4. I assume this is dependent on how familiar your kids are with PBL. Too large a choice @ the wring time could be costly #OZPBLCHAT
  22. Q4 Ss need choice in guiding/research Qs, audience, sources, applctn, communication mode & also in making judgments/evaluating #OZPBLCHAT
  23. A4a: Right now Year 8 are making short films but the whole thing is driven by their choice of characters, plot, style etc. Fun! #OZPBLCHAT
