#OZPBLCHAT Week 2, Q2: How do you plan a project around significant (syllabus) content?

Massif chat

  1. Firstly just adding some stragglers from Q1 :-)
  2. Currently my Year 9 students are writing fantasy stories for Year 2 students. The significance comes in form of audience/purpose. #OZPBLCHAT
  3. A1: there is significant if there is a link to something that is deemed important to S or T #ozpblchat.
  4. @BiancaH80 one idea - from news articles. There seem to be an article or two which can be used. #ozpblchat
  5. @BiancaH80 Look at what is happening in the world, have discussions on these in class, know what they are reading, listening to #OZPBLCHAT
  6. Reading the newspaper together, or having an RSS to edmodo/email from a few news sources or watching news can find real issues! #OZPBLCHAT
  7. @galaxyinvader @biancah80 Love it Why not have a real audience act as the hook for start of the project rather than just the end #OZPBLCHAT
  8. @BiancaH80 e.g. engage with council such as town planners, scientists use them as experts and mentors to focus on local issues #ozpblchat
  9. Q2 got lost somewhere in the stream (for real, I can't find it), adding answers to Q2 now.
  10. A2: I like to actually sit in a circle on the floor and chat about syllabus outcomes with my students - for real!! #OZPBLCHAT
  11. @BiancaH80 #OZPBLCHAT that would be ideal... To involve kids in planning stages and in exploring syllabus.
  12. A2: I do like the idea of discussing with students about the syllabus points... #ozpblchat
  13. A2: Start with your 'end in mind'. Use a big A3 piece of paper and brainstorm what syllabus outcomes, 21C skills etc ur targeting #OZPBLCHAT
  14. A2: If you are new to PBL you probably won't be planning your projects WITH your students straight away. Start small. #OZPBLCHAT
  15. Below has been randomly placed! As in, not related to Q2.
  16. RT @woodleighlearn: #OZPBLCHAT A1 seizing the teachable moments and being able to be flexible. @mo
  17. Yes! Teachable moments are so powerful @woodleighlearn ... this is where conversations are important! #ozpblchat
  18. Back to Q2:
  19. @BiancaH80 A2: agreed. The outcomes are important, but as a frame to support the project rather than lead it.#OZPBLCHAT
  20. @BiancaH80 Not recycle an old unit because "Why reinvent the wheel". Plan with your students! Involve them! #OZPBLCHAT
  21. @BiancaH80 A2: I like the William Model used in G&T - helps u create a dq around topic/text sfu.ca/~kanevsky/COGE… #OZPBLCHAT
  22. A2 Offer choice in theme & presentational methods as a way to get kids discussing syllabus. Teachers should seek regular feedback #OZPBLCHAT
  23. Another random placement below:
  24. @BiancaH80 I like the simplicity of your Investigation/Products/Presentation approach. 1-page w/ outcomes and DQ/focus all in. #OZPBLCHAT
  25. Thanks @malynmawby that framework developed organically but HELPS to plan so MUCH! #OZPBLCHAT
