Currently my Year 9 students are writing fantasy stories for Year 2 students. The significance comes in form of audience/purpose. #OZPBLCHAT- A1: there is significant if there is a link to something that is deemed important to S or T #ozpblchat.
@BiancaH80 one idea - from news articles. There seem to be an article or two which can be used. #ozpblchat
@BiancaH80 Look at what is happening in the world, have discussions on these in class, know what they are reading, listening to #OZPBLCHAT- Reading the newspaper together, or having an RSS to edmodo/email from a few news sources or watching news can find real issues! #OZPBLCHAT

@BiancaH80 e.g. engage with council such as town planners, scientists use them as experts and mentors to focus on local issues #ozpblchat- Q2 got lost somewhere in the stream (for real, I can't find it), adding answers to Q2 now.
