  5. OK ... for our first discussion question: 1. What makes content ‘significant’? (For the teacher and the students.) #OZPBLCHAT
  6. @BiancaH80 #OZPBLCHAT for me I feel significant content needs to fulfil syllabus requirements plus be interesting.
  7. I guess we still need to ensure that the content still fulfils the syllabus requirements. #ozpblchat
  8. @BiancaH80 #OZPBLCHAT for the student significant content is probably about relevancy
  9. Yeah that's true @junith81 ... what are some ways we can work out what our students see as relevant? Just ask? #OZPBLCHAT
  10. @junith81 yes - both are super important. I wonder who define 'interesting' ... students or teacher? #OZPBLCHAT
  11. @BiancaH80 #OZPBLCHAT I usually make that decision eg wanting to look at dystopian fiction with yr9
  12. @BiancaH80 A1: surely it has to be authentic and engaging, achievable and challenging - all at the same time? #OZPBLCHAT
  13. @BiancaH80 #OZPBLCHAT a1 for me, I look at syllabus, and from that, what emerges as most relevant, authentic, long-lasting, fundational
  14. @BiancaH80 A1 - content is significant when it has real world connections, is meaningful to the student and beyond the text #OZPBLCHAT
  15. @BiancaH80 A real audience and where students see a purpose for the task. None of the 'Why are we learning this?' #OZPBLCHAT
  16. @biancah80 the question of significance though is interesting. How to differentiate 'significance'? #OZPBLCHAT
  17. Great question @ShaunMason79 ! Do you mean within your class? This comes to student voice and choice which is next qn! #ozpblchat
  18. #OZPBLCHAT @junith81 maybe it depends on the purpose of the essay? But I teach maths!
  19. @BiancaH80 @junith81 just ask is probably a good place to start. What about them asking each other? #OZPBLCHAT
  20. @junith81 @biancah80 great qn. The purpose has to be real. Making a point - they are v good, but consider purpose I think is key #OZPBLCHAT
  21. @junith81 @ShaunMason79 that's where I came up with the DQ 'why do emos write poetry? still had to do an essay on poetry! #OZPBLCHAT
  22. @BiancaH80 @junith81 Sometimes it doesn't hurt to ask students to come up with three questions they want answered in a topic #ozpblchat
