Tweets from @visualized conference

A collection of the main tweets I posted about the @visualized conference, November 8th-9th, TImes Center, New York

  1. Finally online, I know everyone has been desperate to hear from me... Anyway, this is where I'm broadcasting from lockerz.com/s/259856933
  2. . @aBirt on stage showing a refreshing and smart view of systems thinking in visualising/storytelling about global issues #visualized
  3. . @aBirt showing why I stress influence of OR/'operational research' in dataviz, to see subject > data > info > behaviour/action #visualized
  4. . @migurski talking about how some of the most relevant and impactive data (or proxy data) is shy and hidden BUT in full view #visualized
  5. . @migurski "Exposing whats hidden is about bringing it to a new audience", showing it to people who can make connections to it #visualized
  6. . @wiederkehr of @datavis and @IXT talking about process - great topic - especially how you can learn from bad projects #visualized
  7. . @wiederkehr stressing importance of exploring data using visual literacy to learn and discover potential insights. Big issue, nice talk BW
  8. RT @tkb: “The total number of people ever killed vs the total number of people who’ve ever lived” - Peter Crnokrak #visualized http://pic.twitter.com/S52f7Zp3
  9. Theme emerging (at least for me) from today has been the different ways you relate to physical visualisation artefacts, away from the screen
  10. The different angles people can approach these pieces, different materials, textures, all intentionally used to add layers of interpretation
  11. . @rachelbinx frames a great topic referring to how a return visit to anywhere on web is essentially an endorsement of love for that 'thing'
  12. That is interesting to apply to data viz, as @rachelbinx then asks which ones she returns to. How many of the pieces we see do we return to?
  13. Characteristics that invite return visits? tools that use live data (wind map), that have personal interest to you, that lets u view yrself
  14. Really nice talk from @rachelbinx - great way to rationalise the importance of creative and affective elements to data viz #visualized
  15. RT @datatelling: What the subway sounds like, played in the most playful possible way, by @alexanderchen mta.me #visualized
  16. . @krees doing a great job supplementing those themes I outlined earlier: emotional/affective connection to data - make it real #visualized
  17. When the final slot needs filling, on a long day of talks, running over time, @jakeporway's overt enthusiasm is just ideal #visualized
  18. Thought @djspooky did a great job of MC'ing today's session, acting as a mental sorbet between courses. In other news, I've chipped a tooth.
  19. Some phenomenal people on show @visualized. If it were a football team, they would be the Messis, Xavis etc. Makes me feel like Phil Neville
  20. Learnt 2 things yesterday: 1) loads of good data visualisation stuff 2) Americans (small sample) don't know term 'whip-round' #visualized
  21. Resuming my self-appointed role as chief theme observer: 'making the invisible visible' - whether it be data, tools or devices #visualized
  22. Fascinating showcase of work by @CedricKiefer of @onformative, project works through music > data > dance > generative sculpture #visualized
