Twitter celebrates firing of Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke

Brian Burke was fired by the Maple Leafs Wednesday morning, just a few days before the team's training camp was to open this weekend. Though shocked, many fans were thrilled with the news. What do you think? Tweet to us @TorontoStar.

  1. This is Burke's latest tweet. Spoke too soon?
  2. I'm thrilled we will be back on the ice. I regret what our fans have had to sit through. We are grateful for their loyalty and patience.
  3. How can the Leafs fire Burke when they’re undefeated in January?
  4. #topoli Since Brian Burke is out of a job and @TOMayorFord may soon be looking for one, and likes coaching... oh, never mind. #mapleloafs
  5. NHL players were mostly quiet on Twitter after the news broke.

  8. The Leafs are said to be still very much in the running on a trade with the Canucks for goalie Roberto Luongo, despite Burke’s surprise exit. Dave Nonis was named the Leafs' 14th GM.
  9. Fun Fact: Dave Nonis took over Brian Burke's job in Vancouver and then went out and got Roberto Luongo from Florida. #JustSayin #LeafsNation
  10. The #Leafs are cycling through ex #Canucks gm's. Get ready Mike Keenan, its your job after Nonis.
