Prince William and Kate pregnant: Let the congratulations (and jokes) begin
Seemingly as quick as the news came out that Will and Kate are parents-to-be, Twitter was already buzzing with congratulations, eye-rolling, and jokes. Here's a look at what people are saying online about the #royalbaby on its way.
- Read the story: Prince William, Kate Middleton expecting a baby, says Palace bit.ly/UbrfRy #royalbaby @Star_foreign
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby,” Prince William's office said in a statement. It added that Catherine was in hospital in London suffering from acute morning sickness and the pregnancy was in its early stages.
- Now the question turns to gender and names. Will it be a boy or girl (or twins)? What will they name it?
100 most popular baby names of 2012Hand Aiden and Sophia a big, shiny trophy - they've topped the list of popular baby names once again. Nipping at Aiden's heels is Ethan, ...- Tweet us your guesses to @TorontoStar with #royalbabyname.
- What will be the name for the #royalbaby? Diana? It would be sweet if Prince William named her daughter (if it's a girl) after her mom's :)
- They should mix it up and call the #royalbaby something like Shaniqua or Latifah.
- Here's hoping we don't ever get to know the name of Kate and William's kid and we have to just call them #royalbaby.
- Whatever the name, Stephen Harper and Elizabeth May "finally agreed on something" with these tweets.
- Laureen and I congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their wonderful news #royalbaby
- @pmharper @darrylwolk We finally agree on something! And congratulations to the Prince of Wales on 1st grand-baby. #royalbaby
- First comes love, next comes marriage...
Twitter was ripe with lots of happy tweets of congrats for the royal couple, who were married in April last year. - I'm just gonna say it: I'm super excited about the #royalbaby. I missed the wedding; I sure won't miss this excuse for a tea party!
- The #RoyalBaby development is the most excited I have been about a news story since Geri Halliwell guest-judged on X Factor.
- Mixed heavily in with the happy tweets were ones featuring much eye-rolling and people already sick of the royal coverage. And, of course, the jokes are already starting to pour in.
- Hardly surprising Kate's feeling so sick - according to the National Enquirer, she's been pregnant since 2003. #royalbaby
I hope this is how the royal baby is presented to the world. http://pic.twitter.com/OotpYJZW- The anti-Leveson: Britain makes it up to newspapers by letting Will & Kate reproduce, generate infinite pageviews. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-205863…
