The morning talker: Stockton goes bust

With a vote by the City Council Tuesday night, Stockton becomes the largest city in the nation to file for bankruptcy. An aberration or a sign of things to come? Here's what people are saying about it this morning.

  1. BREAKING: Stockton, Calif. set to become largest US city to declare bankruptcy as officials say mediation failed - @AP
  2. Another All American City bites the dust. If Rancho Cordova continues to lose employers like Volcano, will it be able to continue to pay for fire and police services without embracing the Rohnert Park model and getting in bed with a major casino? sacbee.com/2012/06/27/45918...
  3. City Of Stockton's Looming Bankruptcy: Pictures Tell The Story dlvr.it/1mpVP7
  4. And another city on bankruptcy's path. Rings particularly oddly while $1 trillion in student loans cannot be discharged until death due us part.
  5. "Talks with bondholders and labor unions failed." Public employee unions do not concern themselves with bankrupting any part of the government. Governor Walker knew this could happen in Wisconsin.
  6. FYI; The country CANNOT handle many of these type of situations, which will be happening more and more in the NEAR future. It is starting to become unraveled and our government is doing nothing to prevent it. ABSOLUTELY no cuts in spending is a sure road to go to total collapes of the American Monatary system. Other countries already wont accept our currentcy and its getting worse. So lets worry about whether gays will get rights and not to what is really pressing in America. Oh yeah, Americas Got Talent is on this evening too. Our government is not for America, its more for DESTROYING America!! Dont believe me? Just wait! Its comming!
  7. This wasn't just caused by the crash of the housing market, folks. There is BAD MANAGEMENT written all over this problem. Cities like San Jose, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Philadelphia are also on the brink.
  8. Let's hope this doesn't become a trend with our cities overtaxing and not reducing waste.
  9. As more cities and towns are forced to declare bankruptcy and more workers are laid off....what I now call "crash and burn" affecting all Americans in how and where and when they work...how they save (if that is now possible)...how they make ends meet in retirement.... how Americans can provide for their loved ones....as in Stockton and many other places....where cops are laid off...now personal safety is at risk....if this is not a cluster-fuck I don't know what is.
