Blackpool Fairness Commission Meeting

Blackpool Fairness Commission (@Bpool_Fairness) held their second event at Palatine Sports College on the 7th January 2013.

  2. First question asks about alcohol abuse and the impact this has on visitor economy.
  3. Claire Smith from @stayblackpool advocating for reduced opening hours for licensed venues.
  4. Question from the audience asking what is being done to attract employment into the town.
  5. .@CllrSBlackburn says the council is working to encourage new businesses and to support small/medium businesses.
  6. .@CllrSBlackburn goes on to say that building the skills & aspirations of young people are massively important.
  7. Next question asks what should be done to support young people with mental health issues in the town.

  14. .@CllrSBlackburn says that the town has excellent foster parents and children's home but not getting young people out of care quick enough.
  15. .@CllrSBlackburn praising foster carers and their importance - and the need to recruit more.
  16. Claire Smith from @stayblackpool stressing the importance of work experience in raising aspirations and making people more employable.
  17. Voluntary work also being praised by the panel for raising aspirations and improving employability.
