1. Hi there! My name is Mallory Miller (y'all can call me Milly) and I'll be taking over the account this week! I am a Senior from New York City studying Sport Management in Falk College and Information Management & Technology in the iSchool. On campus, I have had leadership roles in Sport Management Club, Resident Hall Association, Orange After Dark, OttoTHON, and Special Olympics Club! Additionally, I've been able to hold some great internships here in Syracuse and compete in academic competitions. Syracuse University is such a diverse place with different opportunities and I can't wait to show you them! -MEM #Syracuse #SyracuseUniversity #SU #Cuse #StudentTakeover #iSchool #FalkCollege

  2. Easily, the coolest club I'm a part of at Syracuse is Sport Management Club. Each week, we talk abut the sport business, listen to amazing speakers (like David Falk #FalkCollege), and go over community service opportunities, the last of which is what makes me love this club so much.
Each year, we put on the Charity Sports Auction in December to raise money for a local charity. In preparation for @su_spmauction, we collect hundreds of sports memorabilia from teams, athletes, or events and organize the whole event from the layout and marketing all the way to auction day operations. Last year we were honored at the annual Salvation Army Luncheon for our event and the work that SPM Club did through the auction and volunteering.
As a member of the club, I learned that we can't expect a community to support us, if we don't support the community first, and that is what has stuck with me the most out of college. -MEM

  3. Syracuse University really gives us a chance to get involved with the Syracuse area whether through internships or community service. I was extremely lucky that by chance I attended a Special Olympics event my freshman year for one of my classes because it lead me to Special Olympics Central Region. Since then I have been interning and volunteering for the organization, including Color Runs and, of course, Polar Plunge. Getting Silly and Chilly for Special Olympics is the ultimate dare as I have now plunged at Oneida Shores for the past three years. If you think the look of shock is because of the cold, it's really because of how easy it is to get involved with different organizations near campus. Syracuse emphasizes the importance of giving back and this was a great way for me to find a sport-related organization that I wanted to get involved with. Also, side perks of the internship include dressing up as the polar bear mascot, which may or may not be my alter-ego! -MEM #Syracuse #SyracuseU #SU #Cuse #FreezinforaReason #SpecialOlympics #PolarPlunge

  4. I transferred into the @ischoolsu during my sophomore year and before that I didn’t know a lot of people in the school since I started later. At first, I felt a little intimidated because I didn’t consider myself a “technical person” but as I took IST 233, Introduction to Computer Networks, I realized that I didn’t have to be a technical person to understand and succeed in the iSchool.
Last year, I was able to TA for IST 233 and I found my iSchool people. My co-TA’s started out as just familiar faces in the building but now I consider them good friends. Being a TA helped me meet people in my major and feel more comfortable in my classes. Being able to work with other students who didn’t consider themselves to be on the technical side was extremely rewarding because I was able to explain concepts and watch students have their AHA moment just like I had the semester before. I ended up taking a second networking course where I analyzed the Wi Fi on Syracuse’s new Promenade, which gave me a new appreciation of how networks work in the real world. It’s amazing all the small things that go into our technology uses every day and the iSchool has helped me realize these. -MEM #iSchool #Syracuse #SU #cuse

  5. Winter is my favorite time in Syracuse. What’s not to love? Orange Basketball, Cozy drinks at People’s Place, and of course the SNOW! It snows a lot in Syracuse, and by a lot, I mean A LOT. But that’s just how I like it. My roommate freshman year was from California and when it snowed in December she was amazed by it because she had never seen it fall before. Lawrinson Field is perfect for snow angels (I’ve made a few there) or the quad is great for a surprise snowball attack on your way home. The brightness of the snow gives a great excuse for sunglasses in the middle of winter!-MEM #Syracuse #Cuse #SU #Snow

  6. Whats better than dancing with 500 of your closest friends? I don't know, but that's exactly what OttoTHON is! @ottothon_ is a 12 hour dance marathon for Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital and the Children's Miracle Network. We all take a pledge to stay on our feet for the whole time, which sounds daunting at first, but becomes a celebration for all of the patients! My favorite part of the day was when we ran from campus to the children's hospital and we saw the patients waving to us from the windows! For the past two events I have been the Event Operations Chair, which meant I was in charge of the facilities, safety, and the decorations. I had so much fun working with my committee and the entire E-Board for this event. When the Big Event started it was amazing to see my vision for Goldstein Auditorium become a reality after just drawing diagrams for months! -MEM #Syracuse #SU #Cuse #DanceMarathon #OttoTHON #cmn

  7. Last semester I competed in the MLB College Challenge through the @iSchoolSU . It was an overnight challenge to personalize the digital experience for MLB fans. As a Sport Management major, I was super excited about it because I was able to combine sports and technology for one thing. I teamed up with some other Sport Management students and we worked through the night. We designed an addition to the already existing Ballpark App and presented it to different SU alums who work at MLB Advanced Media. Our all-nighter paid off because we won! A few weeks ago we visited the MLB Advanced Media offices in New York city and took a tour and presented our idea again. It was pretty cool to combine both of my majors into a project that I was and am still so proud of. Plus seeing my team's picture on all of the computers in the iSchool was a cool perk too! -MEM #Syracuse #Cuse #SU #iSchool #MLBAM #CollegeChallenge

  8. If you're looking for me on a Friday or Saturday night, you're sure to find me at the War Memorial working a Syracuse Crunch game! What's so great about Sport Management at Syracuse is that there are so many ways to get experience whether it's working for SU Athletics, 'Cuse Crew, or with the @SyracuseCrunch during the school year. After working on a class project about the relationship between the NHL and the AHL, I became interested in Syracuse's AHL team and I applied to be an intern. I worked there for two years including when Syracuse hosted the AHL All Star Classic last year and through this time I've met one of my best friends. It's always cool to see how a team runs, but even better when they WANT to help you learn how an organization works. -MEM #Syracuse #Cuse #SU #SportManagement #BLUnited #WeAreOne #SyrCrunch

  9. It's the end of the week and I'll let you know a bit about the end of my Syracuse experience. As a second semester senior, I'm currently completely my capstone. Sport Management requires its students to complete a 540 hour internship in sports and I was fortunate enough to land my dream internship. I'm currently working for the US Olympic Committee in Colorado and without the help of the Sport Management department and specifically my capstone advisor, I wouldn't be able to have this opportunity. I'm off to spread the Olympic spirit and my next journey. Thanks for hanging out with me this week and I can't wait to come back to Syracuse for commencement in May! -MEM #Syracuse #SU #Cuse #Olympics #USOC #SPM #FalkCollege #ThankYou
